Vallauris France Floral Study - Robert Picault 1947
A charming glazed ceramic bowl by renowned French ceramist Robert Picault, dating from the mid-20th century. Measuring 7.5 inches in diameter, this hand-thrown bowl features Picault’s signature green and brown tin-glaze palette, adorned with a stylized tulip motif—an emblematic expression of his playful, graphic approach to form and decoration.
Marked clearly on the underside with his bold green signature and impressed “PICAULT MADE IN FRANCE” stamp, the bowl exemplifies Picault’s enduring legacy as a key figure of postwar Vallauris pottery. A close collaborator and contemporary of Pablo Picasso at the Madoura workshop in southern France, Picault’s works are celebrated for their whimsical yet refined sensibility, combining folkloric simplicity with Modernist flair.
Please note: a small hairline crack, as pictured, is visible on the interior wall of the bowl. The piece remains structurally sound and visually impactful, with age-appropriate craquelure enhancing its vintage character.
A collectible piece of French ceramic history, perfect for display or thoughtful use.
