The ship is shown under full sail above stylized turquoise waves, creating a particularly lively and decorative composition.

The substantial rectangular porcelain form is finished with Hermès’ characteristic attention to detail, including a brilliant white glazed ground, vivid red linear border and finely applied gilt edging. Four sculpted cigarette rests are incorporated into the sides, each accented in gold.

Originally conceived as an ashtray, the piece translates beautifully to contemporary interiors as a vide-poche or decorative catchall—ideal on a cocktail table, desk, console or bedside table for keys, jewelry and other small objects.
