Renowned French ceramist Robert Picault contributed to the revival of ceramic tableware by updating local traditional forms decorated with lines and geometric designs.
His distinctive style has enjoyed great success and continues to adorn tables to this day. His original pieces are sought after by art collectors. A former student of the School of Applied Arts in Paris, Robert Picault moved to Vallauris in 1946, where he founded the Callis workshop with his fellow classmates Roger Capron and Jean Derval. The village was home to many ceramists including Madoura workshop, where Picault worked with Picasso, while befriending Jean Cocteau, Fernand Léger, Louis Aragon, and Elsa Triolet.
