Peter Robert Keil was born in 1942 in Züllichau, Germany, and came of age in the thriving art scenes of West Berlin, Palma de Mallorca, and Paris. A student of the influential painter Otto Nagel, Keil was deeply shaped by German Expressionism before finding his own powerful voice.

In the 1960s, Keil became closely associated with Pablo Picasso, whose work and personality had a profound impact on his artistic development. Living and working in the same circles in Palma de Mallorca, Keil was inspired by Picasso’s freedom of line and spirit of experimentation. His paintings echo this lineage—distilling the human face into a bold, almost mask-like composition while retaining the raw immediacy of his brushwork.
