Italian Fluted Terracotta Garden Plinth
A wonderfully decorative vintage Italian garden plinth crafted from terracotta, featuring a classical fluted column form and an exceptionally beautiful timeworn painted surface.
Inspired by the architectural vocabulary of antiquity, the pedestal features a deeply fluted cylindrical body terminating in a molded circular base and generously proportioned top. Its restrained classical form is made particularly compelling by the surface: layers of old white paint have naturally worn and flaked away over time, revealing the warm, earthy terracotta beneath.
The resulting patina gives the piece the appearance of an architectural fragment discovered in an old Italian garden. Areas of loss, variation and exposed clay are integral to its character and have been intentionally left untouched.
Substantial enough to display a bust, urn, sculpture or planter, the plinth works beautifully indoors as an architectural pedestal or outdoors within a garden, terrace or conservatory setting.
A particularly evocative example with the kind of authentic surface and irregularity that is difficult to reproduce.
