Description
A sculptural footed porcelain vase by American ceramicist Julie LoRusso, featuring applied classical portrait heads inspired by representations of Aphrodite from antiquity. The shallow bowl form is raised on a turned pedestal foot, giving the piece an architectural profile while maintaining a refined, understated scale.
Hand-built in LoRusso’s Virginia studio, the vessel is finished in luminous white porcelain, allowing the softly modeled portrait reliefs and subtle throwing lines to remain visible. The classical iconography reflects the artist’s ongoing dialogue with European decorative arts and ancient sculpture, informed by her years living in London and studying historic ceramics.
Both sculptural and functional, the vase stands beautifully on its own or may be styled with low florals. A quiet, elegant work that bridges contemporary studio practice and classical precedent.
