Description
A sculptural porcelain urn by American ceramicist Julie LoRusso, drawing on the rich vocabulary of classical and neoclassical ornament. The vessel features a flared bowl form raised on a turned pedestal foot, embellished with an applied lion mask flanked by scrolling acanthus-style reliefs.
Hand-built in LoRusso’s Virginia studio, the urn is finished in luminous white porcelain, allowing the depth and modeling of the relief decoration to read clearly against the smooth body. The lion mask motif—long associated with strength, guardianship, and classical architecture—anchors the composition, while the surrounding scrollwork lends rhythm and balance.
Both architectural and decorative in presence, the piece functions as a sculptural object in its own right and may also be used as a vessel for florals. A refined example of contemporary studio pottery firmly rooted in classical European tradition.
