Large Antique Italian Carved Wood Sunburst Mirror - 1920

A dramatic and sculptural Italian sunburst mirror dating to the early 20th century, hand-carved in wood and finished in warm, time-softened gilt.

The composition features alternating straight and undulating flame-form rays, radiating outward in a rhythmic pattern that creates remarkable depth and movement. The layered central reserve is richly detailed with carved beading and pierced decoration, inset with small mirrored elements that encircle the central looking glass — a refined detail that elevates the piece beyond the typical sunburst form.

The gilded surface has aged beautifully, revealing tonal variations from burnished gold to deeper honeyed undertones. Subtle wear and patina throughout enhance its authenticity and character, consistent with age.

The reverse retains its traditional red-painted ground — a hallmark often seen on Italian giltwood mirrors — and includes hanging hardware.
