Neoclassical Plaster Bust of a Classical Goddess - 20th Century
An elegant 20th-century plaster bust depicting a classical female figure, possibly Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage and queen of the Olympian gods.
Inspired by the sculptural traditions of ancient Greece and Rome, the bust captures the idealized beauty and quiet grandeur of classical antiquity. The figure is distinguished by her serene expression, delicately modeled features and elaborately arranged hair, gathered into a sculptural coiffure with softly cascading curls.
Particularly striking is the fragmented treatment of the neck and shoulders, reminiscent of ancient archaeological discoveries. The contrast between the finely rendered facial features and the deliberately irregular surfaces lends the piece a wonderfully timeworn, antiquarian character.
Finished in a soft chalk-white tone, the plaster retains subtle variations in texture that beautifully emphasize the intricate modeling and sculptural depth. The bust rests upon an integral circular socle, giving the piece a refined architectural presence.
A sophisticated decorative object, equally compelling displayed independently or incorporated into a collected interior alongside antique furniture, artwork and decorative objects.
