Bronze Greyhound Sculpture on Tessellated Marble Pedestal
An elegant vintage bronze sculpture depicting a pair of seated greyhounds, beautifully positioned back-to-back upon a substantial architectural pedestal of tessellated marble.
The two hounds are rendered with remarkable attention to their slender proportions, elongated necks and graceful, muscular silhouettes. Each wears a finely detailed collar, while their contrasting poses create a wonderfully balanced sculptural composition.
The bronze exhibits a richly textured surface with a beautifully aged dark patina and subtle verdigris undertones, emphasizing the finely modelled anatomical details and expressive character of each animal.
Particularly striking is the substantial circular pedestal, meticulously composed of individually fitted pieces of richly veined marble. The tessellated surface features a dramatic interplay of charcoal, deep brown, cream and warm golden tones, creating an intricate mosaic-like effect. Its classical cylindrical form, stepped base and pronounced moulded upper edge lend the composition a distinctly architectural quality.
Evocative of the European animalier tradition, the sculpture celebrates the greyhound as an enduring symbol of elegance, loyalty and aristocratic refinement.
A sophisticated decorative object with considerable presence, equally compelling displayed upon a library table, console or within a thoughtfully collected interior.
