Grand Tour Style Roman Bust
A refined vintage plaster bust inspired by the sculptural portraiture of Ancient Rome, dating to the 1970s. Capturing the enduring elegance of Classical antiquity, the sculpture depicts an idealized youthful figure with softly defined features, deeply carved curls, and a contemplative expression reminiscent of ancient Roman and Hellenistic marble originals.
Executed in plaster with a warm stone-like finish, the bust is mounted on a polished black plinth that lends the piece a striking architectural presence. The contrast between the softly textured sculpture and the sleek base creates a timeless composition equally suited to traditional, neoclassical, or contemporary interiors.
Decorative classical busts such as this became especially popular during the mid-to-late twentieth century, drawing inspiration from the Grand Tour tradition, when collectors sought reproductions of celebrated Greco-Roman sculptures for their homes and libraries. Today, they remain highly sought after for adding depth, history, and sculptural interest to bookshelves, consoles, mantels, and pedestal displays.
The polished black marble base shows scattered surface scratches and light wear consistent with age and use, while the plaster bust retains a beautifully aged patina with minor imperfections that enhance its authentic vintage character.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The plaster bust presents beautifully with a naturally aged surface. The black marble plinth exhibits visible scratches and light surface wear, as shown in the photographs.
Dimensions: 12” H
