Hand-Painted Blue & White Sunflower Pot
A beautifully expressive hand-painted ceramic jar, decorated with an oversized stylized floral motif in a restrained palette of soft blue, creamy white and earthy brown.
The decoration appears to depict a sunflower-like blossom, interpreted in a wonderfully loose, painterly manner. Broad petals surround a patterned blue centre, accompanied by clusters of deep blue leaves and secondary blooms that continue around the body of the vessel. Rather than being precisely botanical, the flowers have a distinctly folk-art quality that lends the piece much of its charm and individuality.
The generously rounded form, short raised neck and subtly irregular glaze give the jar an appealing artisanal presence. Variations in the painted decoration and ceramic surface further enhance its collected character, while the classic blue-and-white palette allows it to sit beautifully alongside both antique and contemporary pieces.
