Large Hand-Painted Porcelain Crane Pot

A striking large-scale hand-painted porcelain pot, decorated with an expressive crane motif in rich earthy brown against a softly glazed ivory-white ground.

The generously proportioned vessel has a beautifully rounded, almost globular silhouette, with a wide mouth, gently tapered lower body and simple footed base. At the centre of the decoration is a wonderfully stylized crane depicted in flight, its wings dramatically outstretched and plumage rendered with bold, painterly detail.

The crane is surrounded by stylized floral motifs and scrolling ornament, with a continuous decorative border encircling the lower portion of the vessel. The restrained palette of deep chocolate and iron-brown against creamy white gives the piece an unusually sophisticated quality, allowing the graphic decoration to take precedence over colour.

Its substantial scale makes it particularly effective as a floor or tabletop vessel. Beautiful filled with large branches or loose, architectural arrangements, it is equally compelling displayed on its own as a sculptural decorative object.

The hand-painted nature of the decoration lends subtle variation and individuality throughout the surface, contributing to its collected character.
