Set of 20 Antique Wedgwood Majolica Green Leaf Plates - England

A striking and unusually large set of 20 antique Wedgwood majolica plates, crafted in England and decorated in a richly saturated green glaze.

Each plate is molded in relief as an overlapping leaf, with beautifully articulated veining, softly scalloped edges, and a curled stem detail at the base. The deeply modeled surface is enhanced by the translucent green glaze, which naturally pools within the recessed veins and contours, creating wonderful variations from brilliant emerald and turquoise green to deeper, almost forest-toned areas.

The reverse bears an impressed WEDGWOOD mark together with additional impressed and painted factory or pattern markings, including GG4.

Produced during the period when English potteries embraced naturalistic botanical forms, these plates are a particularly decorative example of Wedgwood’s majolica tradition. Leaf and vegetable-form ceramics became fashionable for the Victorian table, combining the exuberance of nineteenth-century design with the technical possibilities of richly colored lead glazes.
