Spanish Bird Form Catchall - 20th Century

A beautifully detailed silver-plated catchall by Valenti, made in Spain, modeled in the form of a stylized game bird.

The piece is richly cast with an exceptionally decorative surface, the body defined by layers of deeply articulated plumage extending from the bird’s fan-shaped tail through its wings and breast. The raised featherwork creates a wonderful play of light across the silvered surface, while the smoothly modeled head and pointed beak provide an elegant contrast to the more textural body.

Designed with a shallow, gently concave form, the piece functions beautifully as a catchall or vide-poche for keys, jewelry and other small objects. Equally compelling displayed empty, it has the sculptural quality of a small decorative object and would be particularly handsome on a console, desk, bedside table or bar.

The underside bears the stamped maker’s mark “VALENTI – MADE IN SPAIN.” Valenti is associated with Spanish decorative objects and giftware, particularly finely finished silver-plated pieces produced during the latter half of the 20th century.

The combination of naturalistic detailing and polished silver finish gives the piece a distinctly sophisticated character—an appealing addition to a collected interior and an especially charming gift for a sporting or bird enthusiast.
